French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke with Carney before Canada's announcement, said the recognition of a Palestinian state will "revive a prospect of peace in the region." "The office will remain closed during this time, and we ask that you do not attempt to enter the building until we confirm that it is ready for us to return," the memo said. Goodell also said in the memo that "our hearts go out to all of the victims and their families, and we are deeply grateful for the first responders and medical staff who acted so quickly and continue to provide care." New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed Tuesday on Fox 5 NY’s "Good Day New York" that the gunman was trying to target the NFL’s headquarters but took the wrong elevator bank. He said the floor he took was for Rudin Management. Adams added that Tamura alluded to suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, better known as CTE. He had a grievance with the NFL. "He seemed to have blamed the NFL," the mayor said. "The NFL headquarters was located in the building, and he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator bank." Adams said investigators were going through the "suicide note" the gunman left. An official told Fox News Digital the three-page note was found in the gunman's wallet and made references to CTE and expressed anger toward the NFL over the degenerative brain disease. "This has been a challenging time for our entire team. Please continue to take care of yourselves and one another. If you need additional support, do not hesitate to reach out to your manager or HR. Wade and returned power to make laws regarding abortion back to the states. Johnson, who worked for eight years at a clinic in Bryan, Texas, that was run by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, recalled the celebration among her former colleagues when plans for the Houston mega-facility were unveiled, although she resigned from the organization before it was opened in 2010. "I was in the room on the day that they unveiled the plans. I was in the room on the day that they unveiled the model of that building. Everyone was so excited that we were going to have this 78,000-square-foot abortion facility," Johnson said. "I remember the capacity that they were going to be able to see, the capacity of patients, the excitement of being able to perform 75 abortions every day, six days a week." "So the fact that this facility is no longer even going to be an option, even if surgical abortion was reinstated here in the state of Texas, that facility is no longer going to be operational," she continued. "It's no longer going to be able to be used as an abortion facility. That in itself is a victory." The company cited rising costs, staffing shortages and low reimbursement rates as the reasons for closing the two Houston facilities. State GOP officials in recent years have made repeated attempts to shut down Planned Parenthood even after nearly all abortions were banned under Texas law. The closings in Houston come amid several closures of Planned Parenthood facilities in various states, including New York, where the organization is selling its only Manhattan health center building for $39 million. Johnson, who now runs a pro-life ministry, said mergers were already happening when she worked for Planned Parenthood, including with the facility she worked for, and she expects mergers to continue as more facilities close across the country. "When I first began working for Planned Parenthood, there were almost 100 affiliates. That number has more than halved since I left Planned Parenthood. Affiliates are merging, clinics are closing and they are losing staff. They're having to lay off staff because of clinic closures and mergers," she said, adding that "morale is low" and the work environment is not happy. She said Planned Parenthood wanted to be the "big guy" and essentially close down independent abortion providers to create a monopoly, which she said seems like it will not end up happening. "Many of the independent providers are closing as well. Planned Parenthood facilities are also closing at a very rapid rate," she said. Johnson also said she believes the shuttering of the facility is "incredibly demoralizing" and likely "humiliating" for Planned Parenthood and the pro-choice lobby. "That was a trophy for Planned Parenthood to operate the largest Planned Parenthood in the country," she said. "And for the largest Planned Parenthood to have to close, I think it's incredibly demoralizing and probably humiliating for them as well." Addressing Planned Parenthood's claim that abortions make up only 3% of its services, Johnson said that has been proven false given that facilities in states with abortion bans have had to close. "Now we're being proven right because all of these facilities that don't provide abortions are being forced to shut down," Johnson said. "Because abortion is an overwhelming part of what they do, so all of these clinics that do not do abortions are being forced to close." She said she was not shocked to see that the mega-facility was closing since it can no longer bring in money from performing abortions and can now only offer its other services. "You've got a seven-story, 78,000-square-foot building that's only doing birth control and STD testing. It's not shocking that it closed down because you don't have any significant revenue coming into the facility. There are no abortions going on. That's their primary source of revenue," she said. Large facilities in some Democrat-led states are not experiencing the same setbacks because they are able to continue performing abortions and have money flowing in because of it, Johnson said. FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FROM DEFUNDING SOME PLANNED PARENTHOOD FACILITIES "I think Texas, Louisiana, the southern states, we could have a unique opportunity here because we don't have abortion," she said. "We don't have legal abortion here in the state and we don't have state and federal money pouring into these facilities." She also noted that places, like California, allowing access to surgical abortion are completely overrun with patients who travel for the procedure since it is banned in GOP-led states. Johnson emphasized that despite the victory in Houston, the pro-life movement still has a lot of work to do, pointing to data showing that abortion numbers in Texas have remained about the same since the state banned surgical abortions. "Even though abortion is technically illegal in the state of Texas, women are having abortions at the same exact rate as it was when it was legal," she said. "These women are going online, they're getting abortions from online abortion providers." Abortion pills are "very easy to obtain," she highlighted.

Los Angeles County pushes to prohibit law enforcement from hiding their identities while on the job - Los Angeles County officials are calling for an ordinance to prohibit law enforcement officers from concealing their identities while on duty. The move comes after recent federal immigration raids in the city where some federal agents covered their faces with masks and refused to reveal their identities, which is not abnormal. The Board of Supervisors voted 4–0, with one abstention, on Tuesday to direct county counsel to draft an ordinance that bans law enforcement, including federal agents, from wearing masks, with some exceptions including for medical protection or during undercover operations. Officers would also be required to visibly display identification and agency affiliation while on duty in public. MASSACHUSETTS BILL WOULD FORCE ICE AGENTS TO UNMASK Federal agents have conducted ICE raids in Southern California since June under President Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda, sparking protests and the subsequent federal deployment of the National Guard and Marines. About half the Guard troops and all the Marines have since been pulled out of Los Angeles. Supervisor Janice Hahn, who co-authored the motion, said the raids have provoked fear and residents have a right to know who is stopping, questioning or detaining them. "Across the county, people are being pulled out of their cars, beaten, and ripped from their families by men in tactical gear with balaclavas, no badges, and no names," Hahn said. "That’s not how law enforcement in a democracy should operate." Hahn admitted that it is unclear if the county will be able to enforce the measure against actions by federal agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "Ultimately, it might have to be decided by a court," she said. FROM 'SAFETY' TO 'FASCIST STATE': SENATORS SHARE OPINIONS ON ICE AGENTS WEARING MASKS Administration officials have defended officers who conceal their identities, arguing that immigration agents do it for their safety to avoid potential death threats and doxing, which includes releasing someone’s personal information online without their permission. "I’m sorry if people are offended by them wearing masks, but I’m not going to let my officers and agents go out there and put their lives on the line, their family on the line because people don’t like what immigration enforcement is," ICE acting director Todd Lyons said last month. A pending measure in the state legislature would prohibit local, state and federal police from covering their faces while on duty in the Golden State. Similar legislation has been proposed in other states and U.S. Sens. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., have introduced a bill at the federal level. In Los Angeles County, the county counsel has 60 days to submit the draft ordinance to the board for approval. NYC shooting: What to know about Shane Tamura, gunman who killed 4 including NYPD cop in Midtown Manhattan - A lone gunman walked into a midtown Manhattan office building Monday afternoon and opened fire, killing four people – including an NYPD officer – before turning the gun on himself. Speaking at a press conference later Monday, NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch identified the shooter as Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old Las Vegas resident with a history of mental health issues. Tisch said Tamura had driven across state lines, with his vehicle having been seen as recently as 4:24 p.m. Monday in Columbia, New Jersey, not long before he unleashed a barrage of gunfire. "According to our law enforcement partners in Las Vegas, Mr. Tamura, has a documented mental health history," Tisch said. "His motives are still under investigation and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location." The building Tamura entered and opened fire, 345 Park Avenue, is a commercial building where tenants include the NFL, Rudin Management, KPMG and Blackstone. Documents obtained by Fox News Digital indicate Tamura had a concealed carry permit that was issued on June 14 and valid for five years. Tamura also carried a private investigator license and had a misdemeanor for trespassing not amounting to burglary in 2023. Earlier records show Tamura played football at Granada Hills Charter in Granada Hills, California, which is about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles. He had also worked as a security guard at a Las Vegas casino. The gunman was armed with a rifle and first opened fire in the lobby of the building on 52nd Street and Park Avenue. He went to another floor and shot people there, sources told Fox News, before going up to the 33rd floor and shooting himself. Police are still searching for a motive in Monday’s deadly shooting.

"Some of the information it has shared could only have come from Mossad," Beny Sabti, an Iran expert at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies and a former IDF Persian-language officer, told the outlet. Khamenei's alleged drug use has been suggested in the past, with an Iranian academic saying in 2022 that the Iranian Supreme Leader often uses drugs. "Many viewers do not know this, but Khamenei himself uses drugs," Nour Mohamed Omara said on Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated TV in Turkey at the time. "He has a special village in Balochistan, where the drugs used by the leader are produced," the academic added. Alabama inmate's execution stayed to determine if he is competent enough to be put to death - A judge in Alabama has issued a stay for a convicted killer's upcoming execution while state officials investigate whether he is competent enough to be put to death. David Lee Roberts, 59, was scheduled to be executed on Aug. 21 for the 1992 shooting death of Annetra Jones, but Marion County Circuit Judge Talmage Lee Carter temporarily stayed the execution until it can be determined if Roberts has a "rational understanding" of what would happen to him. "Or similarly put, the issue is whether the petitioner's concept of reality is so impaired that he cannot grasp the execution’s meaning and the purpose or the link between his crime and its punishment," he wrote in the ruling. Carter said the execution will remain on hold until the Alabama Department of Mental Health concludes its report on Roberts. EXECUTION SCHEDULED FOR TEXAS DEATH ROW INMATE CONVICTED IN 'SHAKEN BABY' CASE AS LAWYERS MAINTAIN INNOCENCE Roberts was set to die by nitrogen gas, a controversial method Alabama began using last year when convicted killer Kenneth Smith was executed in January 2024. Attorneys representing Roberts argue that his death sentence should be suspended because he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Roberts' attorneys said in a court filing that he hears voices and is delusional, adding that he also recently attempted to burn tattoos off his arm and leg because he believed they "are trying to control his thoughts." "This evidence demonstrates Mr. Roberts is incompetent to be executed because his delusions prevent him from having a factual or rational understanding of the reason," his attorneys said. The Alabama attorney general’s office is not appealing the stay, although the state has asked that the competency evaluation be expedited. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states cannot execute inmates who are insane and do not understand their upcoming execution and the reasons for it, but Alabama law does not provide a clear standard on what courts must find in evaluating a person's competency to be executed. EXECUTION DATE SET FOR FLORIDA MAN CONVICTED OF KIDNAPPING WOMAN, KILLING HER Roberts murdered Jones in Marion County on April 22, 1992, while he was staying at a house her boyfriend lived in. Prosecutors said Roberts arrived at the home, packed his belongings, stole money and shot Jones three times in the head with a .22 caliber rifle while she was sleeping on the couch. He then poured flammable liquid on her body and the floor and set the house on fire. Jurors convicted him of capital murder and voted 7-5 that he receive life in prison without parole. However, a judge overrode that recommendation and sentenced him to death. Alabama no longer allows judges to override jury sentences in capital cases. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, 40 Days for Life CEO and founder Shawn Carney, a Houston resident, expressed "both personal and professional elation" at the shuttering of the facilities, including the 78,000-square-foot clinic that he said was the largest abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere. "This is massive news for the pro-life movement and shows the direction that Planned Parenthood is going, which is down," Carney said. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast — which runs six clinics in the Houston area and two in Louisiana — will close its Prevention Park and Southwest centers on Sept. 30, while the other Houston facilities will be acquired by the organization's largest Texas affiliate. FEDERAL JUDGE PARTIALLY BLOCKS LAW BANNING ADULTS FROM HELPING MINORS GET OUT-OF-STATE ABORTIONS This comes amid several closures of Planned Parenthood facilities in various states, including New York, where the organization is selling its only Manhattan health center building for $39 million. Facilities in GOP-led states with abortion restrictions, including Texas, have also been forced to cease procedures following the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe V. Wade and sent decisions regarding abortion back to the states. "Now they are closing the largest abortion facility in the world," Carney said. "Their flagship. They're very proud of it in Houston, Texas. They're finally closing it, and it's unbelievable." The company cited rising costs, staffing shortages and low reimbursement rates as the reasons for closing the two Houston facilities. GOP officials in recent years have made repeated attempts to shut down Planned Parenthood, even after nearly all abortions were banned under Texas law. The Trump administration has sought to impose funding cuts to Planned Parenthood that could lead to the closure of additional facilities. A provision in a GOP-backed bill would end Medicaid payments for one year to abortion providers that received more than $800,000 from the program in 2023. A judge granted a preliminary injunction earlier this week blocking the government from cutting Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood member organizations that either do not provide abortions or did not meet a threshold of at least $800,000 in Medicaid reimbursements in a given year. Carney said 40 Days for Life has prayed and held vigils outside the Houston mega-facility since 2006. "Countless people have gone out, offered alternatives. We've had pro-life buses outside to do free ultrasounds. There have been so many lives saved, but to be honest, it just seemed like they were Goliath and it didn't matter if we were David," he said, adding that the "behemoth" facility even provided late-term abortions at one point. "They were just going to always be open and always be victorious." Wade. "Planned Parenthood has always been very top-heavy in D.C., and that's been a weakness for the pro-life movement. But once [the court] sent it back to the states, it was sending it back to the place where the pro-life movement was the strongest, which was the grassroots," he said. The closure of the two Houston facilities shows "more than anything else" that "the pro-life movement is built for a post-Roe America," Carney said, adding that Planned Parenthood is not a "monster that can't go away." "They are very, very vulnerable. When you look at the New York closing and the Houston closing, this is what that represents. All the nonsense about other services and serving women and helping low-income women. Because when you take away abortions or you offer alternatives, they close, and they close their most prosperous locations," he said.

Federal appeals court rules California ammunition background checks unconstitutional - A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that California's first-of-its-kind law requiring gun owners to undergo background checks to purchase ammunition is unconstitutional, declaring that it violates the Second Amendment right to bear arms. In a 2-1 decision, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court judge's permanent injunction blocking the state from enforcing the law. Circuit Judge Sandra Ikuta said the law "meaningfully constrains" the right to keep and bear arms and that the state failed to prove the law was consistent with the country's historical tradition of firearm regulation as required under a 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision, New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. "By subjecting Californians to background checks for all ammunition purchases, California’s ammunition background check regime infringes on the fundamental right to keep and bear arms," Ikuta wrote. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, said the ruling was a "slap in the face" to efforts by officials in the Golden State to enact firearm restrictions to curb gun violence. "Strong gun laws save lives – and today’s decision is a slap in the face to the progress California has made in recent years to keep its communities safer from gun violence," Newsom said in a statement. "Californians voted to require background checks on ammunition and their voices should matter." The office of state Attorney General Rob Bonta, also a Democrat, said "our families, schools, and neighborhoods deserve nothing less than the most basic protection against preventable gun violence, and we are looking into our legal options." California voters approved a ballot measure in 2016 requiring gun owners to undergo initial background checks to purchase ammunition, as well as buy four-year ammunition permits. Lawmakers later amended the measure to require background checks for each ammunition purchase. California officials said they received 191 reports last year of "armed and prohibited individuals" who were blocked through background checks from purchasing ammunition. The state can ask an 11-judge appeals court panel or the U.S. Supreme Court to review the decision. The plaintiffs included Kim Rhode, who has won three Olympic gold medals in shooting events, and the California Rifle & Pistol Association. The gun group's president and general counsel said in a joint statement that the decision was a victory against "overreaching government gun control," while Rhode described it as "a big win for all gun owners in California." The injunction was issued by U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez in San Diego. An appeals court panel placed the injunction on hold while California's appeal played out. California argued that several old firearms restrictions supported background checks, including colonial-era rules requiring licenses to produce gunpowder, the disarmament around 1776 of people who refused to take "loyalty oaths" and late-19th century rules requiring government approval to carry concealed weapons. 'EXCESSIVE' STATE TAXES ON GUNS, AMMUNITION SALES ARE TARGET OF NEW GOP CRACKDOWN EFFORT Circuit Judge Jay Bybee, who dissented from Thursday's decision, accused the majority of ignoring Supreme Court guidance by effectively declaring any limits on ammunition sales unlawful, given the unlikelihood a state could point to identical historical analogues. Two illegal immigrants charged in NYC shooting of off-duty CBP officer - Two illegal immigrants were charged in the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer in New York City, authorities announced on Thursday. Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez and Cristian Aybar Berroa — both from the Dominican Republic — were arrested after the shooting at Fort Washington Park on Saturday. Mora Nunez, 21, was charged with one count of "possession of ammunition by an illegal alien," which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, and Aybar-Berroa, 22, was charged with accessory after the fact, which carries a maximum sentence of seven and a half years in prison, according to Interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office Ricky J. Patel. "As alleged, these defendants entered and spent years in our country illegally, and their criminal activity culminated in Saturday night’s near-deadly attack on one of our own," Patel said in a statement. SECOND SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CBP OFFICER SHOOTING HAS LENGTHY CRIMINAL PAST, DHS SAYS Mora Nunez allegedly opened fire on an off-duty CBP officer in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan, striking the officer in the face and right arm. The officer returned fire, hitting Mora Nunez before he fled on a motorbike driven by Aybar-Berroa, who transported the alleged gunman to a hospital. Aybar-Berroa later allegedly attempted to get rid of the clothing he was wearing during the shooting because it was bloody. He also spoke to one of Mora Nunez's family members about needing to get rid of the suspected shooter's bloody clothes. Both suspects entered the U.S. illegally and are subject to orders of removal from the U.S., officials said. NOEM BLAMES ‘SANCTUARY’ POLICIES FOR MIGRANT ACCUSED OF SHOOTING OFF-DUTY CBP OFFICER Multiple sources within U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement previously told Fox News that the pair are believed to be the same men caught on video in an armed robbery of a business in Leominster, Massachusetts, in February. Aybar-Berroa also has a criminal history in New York City that includes arrests for second-degree reckless endangerment in May 2023 and fourth-degree felony grand larceny and petit larceny in March and April 2024, officials said. The Department of Homeland Security said that after the April 2024 arrest and "despite an active ICE detainer, the New York City Department of Corrections released Berroa back onto NYC streets." He was also arrested by the New York City Police Department in February of this year for second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and for driving without a license, according to DHS. "On June 12, 2025, Berroa pled guilty to petit larceny at the Bronx County Supreme Court. This plea was made in consolidation of all his previous arrests, and he was conditionally discharged and allowed to roam the streets of NYC," DHS previously said. "A judge ordered Berroa a final order of removal on January 3, 2023." Former Congressman George Santos delivers 'glamorous' farewell before going to prison: 'The curtain falls' - Former Rep. George Santos posted a theatrical farewell on social media Thursday night, just hours before he was to begin serving a federal prison sentence for fraud and identity theft. "Well, darlings… The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed," Santos wrote on X. "From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days. To my supporters: You made this wild political cabaret worth it. To my critics: Thanks for the free press." The former New York congressman is expected to report to federal custody Friday to begin serving an 87-month sentence, just over seven years, after pleading guilty in 2024 to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Santos was assessed the maximum sentence in April by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert. He was also ordered to pay nearly $374,000 in restitution and forfeit more than $205,000 in fraud proceeds. CALIFORNIA TAX EXPERT ADMITS ROLE IN ILLEGAL ALIEN'S MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR FRAUD SCHEME His guilty plea followed a sweeping investigation into campaign finance fraud, donor identity theft and false COVID-era unemployment claims. "This prosecution speaks to the truth that my office is committed to aggressively rooting out public corruption," said U.S. Attorney John J. Durham, who called the sentence "judgment day" for Santos and justice for his victims. Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said Santos "traded in his integrity for designer clothes and a luxury lifestyle." MENENDEZ TO REPORT TO PRISON FOR 11-YEAR TERM FOR CORRUPTION Prosecutors shared how Santos and his campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, doctored donor reports to qualify for national Republican party funding. They fabricated contributions from Santos' family and falsely reported a $500,000 loan from Santos, though he had under $8,000 in his accounts. He also stole credit card information from donors, including "victims he knew were elderly persons suffering from cognitive impairment or decline" and made unauthorized charges to fund both campaign and personal expenses, according to the DOJ. Santos also used a fake political fundraising company to solicit tens of thousands of dollars which he spent on "designer clothing." During the pandemic, Santos fraudulently claimed over $24,000 in unemployment benefits while employed at an investment firm. He also submitted false congressional financial disclosures to the House. Santos was elected in 2022 after flipping New York’s 3rd District for the GOP. His résumé was easily debunked. He falsely claimed academic degrees, Wall Street jobs and family ties to the Holocaust and 9/11. He was expelled from Congress in December 2023 after a scathing ethics report, becoming just the sixth member ever removed from the People's House. Santos has remained publicly active after his sentencing, selling video messages on Cameo and making social media posts. Pam Bondi cancels appearance at anti-trafficking summit over medical issue - Attorney General Pam Bondi abruptly canceled her scheduled Wednesday appearance at CPAC's anti-trafficking summit in Washington, D.C., citing her recovery from a health issue. Bondi was expected to speak at CPAC's Summit Against Human Trafficking when it was revealed she could not make her scheduled appearance. "I do have a note from the attorney general, from Attorney General Pam Bondi, that I wanted to share," Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti told attendees. Galeotti then read Bondi's statement to the crowd. "I truly wish I was able to join you and support all of the work being done on this critical issue." After reading the statement, scattered applause was heard from the audience. "We appreciate the applause for her and not boos for me," Galeotti joked. "So I will do my best to fill those big shoes." The Justice Department did not disclose additional information about Bondi's health condition. Other Trump administration officials spoke at the event, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and border czar Tom Homan. Bondi's canceled appearance comes as she has faced recent scrutiny over the Trump administration's refusal to release documents surrounding the case of deceased sex predator Jeffrey Epstein. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Bondi notified President Donald Trump in May that his name appeared multiple times in the Epstein documents. The attorney general said earlier this year that an Epstein "client list" was on her desk before the Justice Department and FBI recently claimed that Epstein killed himself and that there was no evidence he kept such a list. Bondi also walked back her earlier comments, saying she was referring to the Epstein case file, not a "client list." FEDERAL JUDGE RULES ON TRUMP'S REQUEST TO UNSEAL EPSTEIN GRAND JURY TRANSCRIPTS Trump has sought to avoid the Epstein topic in recent weeks, repeatedly arguing the issue does not matter anymore. He also said he no longer wants the support of his past supporters who continue to press the Epstein case, criticizing them as "weaklings." The president said at the White House last week that Bondi could release "whatever's credible" related to the Epstein case as he defended her work on the matter and criticized Republicans who are still pushing for Epstein material to be released. "He's dead. He's gone," Trump said of Epstein. "And, all it is, is the Republicans, certain Republicans got duped by the Democrats, and they're following a Democrat playbook and no different than Russia, Russia, Russia and all the other hoaxes." The administration eventually asked for a judge to unseal transcripts from Florida grand jury proceedings into Epstein amid calls for transparency about the case, but the request was denied.

Idaho victims' families to address killer directly at Kohberger sentencing - It's judgment day for Bryan Kohberger, the former aspiring criminologist who killed four University of Idaho students in a 4 a.m. home invasion ambush in November 2022. The 30-year-old was studying for a Ph.D. at Washington State University in Pullman when he drove about 10 miles to the off-campus rental house at 1122 King Road, just across the state line, in Moscow, Idaho. At a change of plea hearing July 2, he admitted to killing four young people inside: Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20. But he did not give a motive or explain anything other than admit his guilt. Their families are expected to address him directly in court today with victim impact statements in a sentencing hearing expected to take all day. READ BRYAN KOHBERGER'S SIGNED KILLER CONFESSION Mogen and Goncalves, who were best friends, were killed in a third-floor bedroom. Kohberger's key mistake — the only publicly known physical evidence tying him to the crimes — was a Ka-Bar knife sheath he left under Mogen's body. Police found his DNA on the snap. On the second floor, Kernodle was awake, having received a DoorDash delivery minutes earlier. Kohberger killed her, then turned his knife on her sleeping boyfriend, Chapin, who was spending the night. A surviving roommate told police she heard crying and a man's voice say something to the effect of, "It's OK. I'm going to help." Then she saw a masked man with "bushy eyebrows" leave out the back door. For whatever reason, he didn't attack her. IDAHO MURDERER BRYAN KOHBERGER’S FORMER FRIENDS DIVE INTO KILLER’S MINDSET ABOUT WHY HE DID IT The victims' families have been split over the plea deal, which required Kohberger to waive his right to appeal and to forfeit his right to seek a sentence reduction under Idaho law. Some of the families, but not all, are expected to deliver victim impact statements in a proceeding court officials predicted would run for the full day. It remains unclear what, if anything, Kohberger will say. While the plea deal specifically didn't require Kohberger to explain his actions at the July 2 hearing, Goncalves' father and many others, including President Trump, have said they hope he is required to give greater detail at sentencing. BRYAN KOHBERGER PLEADS GUILTY TO IDAHO MURDERS Chapin's parents and the mothers of Kernodle and Mogen have all voiced support for the plea deal, which will spare them from years of appeals and the trauma of a trial. In exchange for his guilty plea, Kohberger avoids the death penalty and is expected to receive the maximum punishment of four consecutive life prison sentences with no possibility of parole, plus another 10 years. His sentencing begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. Mountain Time, 11 a.m. Eastern.

9-year-old Canadian girl whose father was charged with her murder was drowned, authorities say - A preliminary autopsy revealed that 9-year-old Canadian girl Melina Galanis Frattolin was drowned, and her death has been ruled a homicide, New York State Police said Tuesday. Dr. Michael Sikirica performed the autopsy at Glens Falls Hospital on July 21. While final lab results are pending, the cause of death was listed as asphyxia due to drowning, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide, police said in a release. Melina's father, 45-year-old Luciano Frattolin, is facing charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse after allegedly fabricating a kidnapping story. CANADIAN GIRL, 9, FOUND DEAD IN NEW YORK AFTER FATHER CLAIMED SHE WAS KIDNAPPED Frattolin remains in custody at Essex County Correctional Facility after his arraignment Monday in Ticonderoga Town Court. According to investigators, Melina and her father crossed into the U.S. from Canada on July 11 for what was supposed to be a vacation. Surveillance showed the pair in Saratoga Springs around 5:30 p.m. on July 19, and Melina spoke to her mother by phone an hour later. But by 9:58 p.m., Frattolin called 911 from Lake George claiming his daughter had been abducted. Less than 16 hours later, Melina’s body was discovered in a shallow pond in Ticonderoga, around 30 miles away. PADDLEBOARDER’S MYSTERIOUS KILLING ROCKS QUIET SUMMER VACATION AREA Authorities said no evidence supported Frattolin’s claims of an abduction involving a suspicious van. Law enforcement agencies from New York, Canada, and the FBI assisted in the investigation. New York state police are urging the public to submit tips, video, or dashcam footage showing the 2024 gray Toyota Prius the father and daughter traveled in between July 11 and July 19, particularly along I-87 Northway exits 28 to 20 during the evening of July 19.
